Why September Is the Best Time to Get Your Stretch Certification

And Why Most Therapists Wait Too Long

Every year it happens the same way. October arrives, the NC Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy (BMBT) renewal period begins, and massage therapists across the state and country suddenly realize they have a deadline they've been quietly avoiding. 24 hours, 21 elective hours with 12 distance learning, 12 live, in-person classroom hours, and 3 mandatory ethics hours. Due by December. And a calendar that's somehow full of everything except the training they've been meaning to do.

September is the month that changes that pattern or the month that makes it worse. The therapists who act now have time to complete their requirements thoughtfully, choose the training that actually advances their practice, and show up to the renewal deadline with room to spare. The ones who wait are the ones refreshing their inbox in November hoping something fits.

If you've been thinking about getting your stretch certification or completing your CEUs before year end, here's why right now is the right time.

The December Deadline Is Closer Than It Feels

NC Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy (BMBT) renewal opens October 1 at bmbt.org. That gives therapists who are behind on their hours a two-month window to complete 24 hours before the December 31 deadline. Two months sounds like enough. It rarely is.

The board itself warns about this: as the December 31 deadline approaches, server slowdowns can delay or prevent renewals from being processed. The therapist who waits until the last week of December is not just scrambling for CEUs—they're fighting the system too.

Courses take time to complete even when they're self-paced. Live trainings book out. Life intervenes. The therapist who starts in November is operating under genuine pressure and often ends up settling for the fastest available option rather than the most valuable one.

Starting in September gives you the luxury of choosing intentionally. The training that advances your practice, not just the one that fits the calendar.

What a Stretch Certification Actually Does for Your Career

A stretch certification isn't just a credential to check a box. It's a signal to clients, to facilities, to referral partners that you've invested in a specialized skill set that sets you apart from therapists who haven't.

Assisted stretching is carving out its own lane as a standalone wellness service. Stretch studios are opening nationwide. Personal trainers, coaches, and fitness professionals are adding stretch to their offerings. The demand is growing and the practitioners who are credentialed in a proven methodology are the ones capturing it.

The certification doesn't just tell clients you know how to stretch. It tells them you know how to produce results.

Beyond the market positioning, a good stretch certification changes how you work. The Stretch Lady Method™ Level 1 gives massage therapists, personal trainers, and fitness professionals a complete structural framework: how to assess, how to sequence, how to deliver sessions that protect your body and produce measurable outcomes for every client.

That framework shows up on Monday morning. In sessions that flow instead of being pieced together. In a body that holds up across a full week of work. In clients who come back because something actually changed.

What's Available And What Makes Sense for You

There are three options to choose from depending on where you are in your practice and what you need before December:

  • The Stretch Lady Method™ Level 1 Certification: Online, self-paced, 14 FSMTB and NCBTMB -approved CEUs, $400. The complete stretch and mobility framework. Open to massage therapists, personal trainers, yoga instructors, and fitness professionals of all kinds.
  • The Stretch Lady Method™ Level 2 Certification: Online, self-paced, 14 FSMTB and NCBTMB-approved CEUs, $500. Advanced integration of massage and tool-based work — cupping, scraping, lymphatic brushing, rapid release. Prerequisite: Level 1 or equivalent experience.
  • Ethics in Assisted Stretching & Integrated Manual Therapy — Online, 3 hours, $75. Covers the 3 ethics CEUs required for renewal. Consent, scope of practice, professional boundaries, and risk management. Stands alone or complements Level 1 and Level 2.

There's also a bundle worth knowing about: sign up for both the November Part 1 live, in-person classroom training and the December Part 2 live, in-person classroom  training- both in Charlotte, NC, and the Ethics online course is included free. That's 28 live CEUs plus 3 ethics credits — more than every contact hour you need for renewal, covered in one decision.

The Live Training Dates Are Set and One Is Filling Fast

If live, hands-on training is what you're looking for, the fall schedule is confirmed:

  • Part 1 Live Training — November 7–8 · $450 · 14 CEUs · Seats are limited and filling
  • Part 2 Live Training — December 5–6 · $700 · 14 CEUs · Open to Part 1 graduates
  • Business Training for Massage Therapists — December 13 · 6 CEUs · New for 2026

Part 1 in November is the priority. It's the prerequisite for Part 2, it's where most therapists start, and it's historically the training that sells out. If you've been planning to attend, now is the time to secure your seat.

The Therapists Who Get Certified in September

The therapists who complete their certification in September are the ones who show up to October's open enrollment already done. They're the ones who had time to actually absorb and apply what they learned. They're the ones whose practices reflect the investment they made — not just in their credentials, but in how they work.

That's the therapist the market is increasingly looking for. And September is when you decide whether that's you.

Don't wait until November. Get certified in September.
